About the Program

Jim Thompson and SJSU Students

The Thompson Global Internship Program was established to give the College of Business' most outstanding students the opportunity to experience the world of global business first-hand. Selected students participate in a two to three week paid internship for Crown Worldwide at one of their overseas locations. The program runs one session annually, in June, supplementing the students' regular classes.

The Program was founded by Jim Thompson, a San Jose State alumnus and founder of the multinational corporation Crown Worldwide Group. Mr. Thompson saw the opportunity to partner with the College of Business, supporting students directly with an outstanding opportunity, while at the same time receiving the benefit of their work. Unlike typical internships, however, this program includes a class as well as the work experience to assure students are able to take fullest advantage of the opportunity.

January, 2010, saw the Program launch with a pilot project when a team of four students traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and completed the first project in the program. The successful pilot led to three teams traveling to Hong Kong in June, 2010, and established the understanding that, if appropriate projects are available, two or three teams will participate in the Program every January and June. This program is directed by Mr. William DeVincenzi, reporting to the Dean of the College of Business, David Steele.
