MSTM Program Learning Goals

MSTM Program Learning Outcomes

Program goals were initially developed in Fall 2005 and subsequently revised in Spring 2013 by core MSTM faculty. The current version of the PLOs was approved by the MSTSM Curriculum Committee on 11/20/2019.

  1. Transportation Systems and Society
    Develop a systems-savvy and global perspective on solving transportation management challenges 
    1. Develop systems-savvy solutions to transportation management challenges
    2. Develop globally-aware solutions to transportation management challenges
  2. Transportation Policy
    Develop solutions to transportation management challenges that integrate knowledge of the transportation policy environment
    1. Analyze policy problems to identify the relevant legislative and administrative structures that guide the decision
    2. Analyze a transportation management scenario to identify the appropriate roles for different government entities, as well as for political, private sector, and/or nonprofit actors
    3. Analyze transportation tax or fee proposals to determine if and how they contribute to achieving transportation system performance objectives and broad social policy goals
  3. Leadership
    Identify and analyze leadership styles and traits 
    1. Articulate one's own leadership capacity based on an examination of personal leadership style, skills, and preferences 
  4. Communications
    Communicate effectively with a diverse workforce and citizenry
    1. Prepare written materials that are clear, grammatically correct and free of typos, and tailored to the audience’s needs and level of expertise
    2. Deliver oral presentations that are clear, concise, and tailored to the audience’s needs and level of expertise
  5. Analytical skills
    Identify and evaluate transportation management issues using appropriate data and methods
    1. Collect, analyze, and synthesize information from multiple sources using appropriate data and methods
