Interior Design Program
About SJSU Interior Design
Established over 50 years ago, the Interior Design program, with its emphasis on Interior Architecture, remains one of the most prestigious interior design programs in a public university. In keeping with the idea of global citizenship, much of the Interior Design Program’s curriculum centers around sustainability. Located at the center of Silicon Valley, there is a strong emphasis on biophilia: a concept that aims to increase the connectivity of nature in interior spaces, particularly corporate spaces.
Many of our accomplished Interior Design faculty members are currently active in the professional design world, which allows them to bring into the classroom the most updated and relevant knowledge gained from firsthand experience. Students will emerge from this competitive program as highly trained Interior Designers, many of whom will receive job offers even before graduating through the professional experience gained through their portfolio review sessions and required internship programs.
Our program boasts of numerous awards in competitions sponsored by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), the Planning and Visual Education Partnership (PAVE) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Many of our graduates have been instrumental in rethinking and reinventing the workplace for significant corporations in the area. Others go on to establish their own successful design studios and become leaders in the profession. All have stepped forward to effect change throughout the world.
