Fall 2020 News
In order to promote a dialog on the theme Equity, and to integrate awareness on themes such as Equality and Inclusivity as well as Respect for Differences on Campus, my class at SJSU made this piece out of a basic exercise that I teach. Lickable, pinhole perforated by hand on vintage machines, produced at the Portland Stamp Company in Oregon, with a first run of 100 pieces, this stamp sheet can be used as a decoration, added individually letters, or find its place in Stamp Art collections. Available for purchase.
Logo and branding concepts by Jamie Hoang for FutrMasks, a research initiative at the SJSU industrial design department. The goal of the Futrmasks project is to explore sustainable materials, and a more user-centered design approach to solve problems of filtration, safety, comfort, and sustainability in personal protective equipment (PPE) as it becomes part of our everyday lifestyles. Cover concepts by Ryan Huang for his GD83 final class project. Students in the class
research and produce a book on three influential designers. Ryan hand-drew these original
letterforms for his covers, experimenting with vector curves and forms to create unique
design options.
The future is international. Animation students from San Jose, CA and sound students
from Monterrey, Mexico collaborated on making short films during Fall 2020. Several
impressive films were animated and scored in just one semester. Featured here is “Reach
Out” by Ange Macedo (SJSU), sound by Rolando Solas, José Luviano, Jesus Hernandez

Summer 2020 News
New Faculty
The Department of Design is excited to announce the addition of two new faculty members. Angela Wu is joining the Animation/Illustration program. She has worked on a variety of projects including stories, comics, games, illustrations, and websites. She's interested in new technology and its creative potential. If she can teach some, make some, learn some, play some—that's a good day. She's happy to be joining the full-time faculty at SJSU.
Kohar Scott is joining the Industrial Design program. Her background is a focus on Color, Material, and Finish (CMF) in the field of product design. Her client list includes industry leaders in consumer electronics, pro-audio, toy manufacturing, personal care, and soft goods. Kohar's current research revolves around the use of materials, AI, VR, and AR to solve problems in the design process.
Art + Technology
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) has awarded Professor San Fratello, with her partner Ronald Rael, a 2020 Art + Technology grant for the project "MUD Frontiers". The awards include monetary and in-kind support for projects that explore artistic application of emerging technologies.

IIDA Honor Award
Interior Design student Lei Wang recently won first place in the Northern California's International Interior Design Association's (IIDA) Honor Awards for her design of The Paradise Healthcare Clinic.
