Diversity Action Plan

San Jose State continues to strive toward creating and fostering a campus environment that is open and welcoming to a diverse population.

The university is committed to completing the items in the President's Priorities and Initiatives plan [pdf] which emerged from the work of several efforts on campus:

  • President’s Commission on Diversity: This group provides input, recommendations and advice to the President on effective ways to create a campus environment that is diverse, equitable and inclusive.
  • Moye Report [pdf]: In 2013, the university retained Myron “Mike” Moye to conduct independent fact finding regarding an incident among several students in a residence hall.
  • Special Task Force on Discrimination: The fact-finding report led to the formation of this group, chaired by retired Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge LaDoris Cordell. When it completed its work in April 2014, the group provided more than 50 recommendations [pdf] to the university.
  • Diversity Action Plan [pdf]: Administrative and Academic Senate leaders reviewed each of the task force's recommendations and formulated a list of tasks for the university. In December 2015, Update on Action Items [pdf] was provided to the campus community.
