Graduate Program Admission Requirements
Requirements for Admission to Classified Standing
An applicant first must meet the requirements for admission to the university. In addition, the applicant should generally possess a grade point average of "B" across their undergraduate studies. Bachelor degrees in fields other than economics are acceptable for admission to classified standing if an applicant has completed undergraduate coursework in intermediate microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, introductory econometrics, and introductory statistics and calculus, with satisfactory grades (generally of "B" or better).
Requirements for Admission to Conditionally Classified Standing
A student who does not meet all requirements for admission to classified standing may be admitted into the program on a conditionally classified basis if he or she has demonstrated an interest in and an ability to master economic analysis, and has completed introductory statistics and calculus. Such admission will be conditional upon completing specific courses (which may include ECON 101, 102, 103a) to correct the deficiencies listed by the graduate advisor on the admission notification. Upon completing these requirements the student may begin taking graduate-level courses.
English Language Proficiency
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test is often required for international students or those who earned their degree from a university outside of the United States. The current requirements for the TOEFL are 90 (Internet Based), 575 (Paper Based), 240 (Computer Based).
