Contents of Entering the Gate

When students begin the study of tea with an iemoto, they are said to "enter the gate" of that school. The first certificate they receive is called nyu mon.

A one story Japanese gate with a thatched roof. The gates are open and we can see a garden inside. A low bamboo pole prevents people from walking in. The gate is set in a cream colored plastered wall. There is a small door in the wall to the right of the main entrance.
