PURPOSE:
The purpose of this assignment is to refine your writing skills by identifying a piece of coursework under one of the learning objectives in the Areas of Foundations (theory), Inquiry or Practice that requires reworking. See Major Learning Objectives (LOs) in Syllabus.
Identify a piece of coursework (paper you have written) under one of the learning objectives that requires reworking. The original paper must be five double-spaced pages in length (minimum requirement).
What constitutes a reworking piece?
Reowrking a paper means some form of updating, revision, redesign, Deletion and addition.
CONTENT AND STRUCTURE OF THIS ASSIGNMENT:
Your revision should include:
I. Rationale, Plan, and Relevance: (2 pages)
1. Purpose statement of this assignment and preview main points (1/3 of a page)
2. Rationale or Justification (see a sample below) (2/3 of a page)
- Describe the learning objective your rework falls under in the Foundations, Inquiry, or Practice area and explain why you have chosen this piece as your reworking piece.
- Please make sure that your rework is a good fit for the learning objective you have selected. For example, if your rework is on ethics, then it should be a piece that addressed the ethical responsibilities in communicating with others.
3. Detail how you plan to rework the original paper that is meaningful and substantive. (see a sample below) (1/2 of a page)
4. Explain how your reworking will help better meet the learning objective. (see a sample below) (1/2 of a page)
II. Rework Paper. (7 pages)
The paper must be work must be 7 double-spaced pages in length. Mark (e.g., track changes or different colors) where you have made 30% revisions on the original paper/project.
This rework paper must have: I. Introduction: Purpose Statement and Preview Main Points. II. Body of the Paper: Main section of paper. III. Conclusion.
The paper should be supported by 5 different sources -minumum- (From Academic Journals or Books) and these sources should be cited in the paper and in the reference page (#8) using APA system.
This assignment is worth 15 points.

1 Justification for Foundations Reworking Piece
The learning objective that is met through my paper is the “Theories of Communication”. This learning
objective is achieved when a student “demonstrates an understanding of the major theories that have
shaped the field of communication, including historical development and current trends.” I chose this
specific paper as my reworking piece because when I read it over, it did not seem complete. I need to
link the concepts together, provide more examples to illustrate my understanding of the theory, and
define the theories at the beginning of the paper rather than in the middle. [Describe the learning

chosen this piece as your reworking piece.]
2. Detail how you plan to rework
To rework the original project, I intend to restructure the paper by first providing solid
definitions of what the theories that I am describing are and also elaborating on my opinion regarding
the strengths or weaknesses of the theories discussed. I want to reach the objective of demonstrating
an understanding of the “Theories of Communication” by providing more information about the
theories to ensure that the reader understands. [Detail how you plan to rework 30% of the

understand how these theories have helped us understand communication both in the past and the
present, not only how they have helped me personally, but how these theories have historically shaped
