Touring the Green Mountain
State along US 2, you might head toward Montpelier, easily the nicest
state capital city in the nation. Small and friendly, Montpelier reflects
Vermont’s mellow vibe and Yankee practicality. However, the place
to stay lies back east near St. Johnsbury. Driving past, you may spy
rows of plastic chairs and a set of quaint yellow and white cabins overlooking
Joe’s Pond: Injunjoe Court. With her family, Beth Perreault maintain
the tiny but immaculate court and spin yarns about the Abernacky Indian
who used to guide people through the area. The Court earned its name
because, “rumor has it that Injun Joe used to sleep on the hill.”
