Injury and Illness Prevention Program

An effective Injury and Illness Prevention Program will assist management in determining what hazards exist in the workplace, how to correct hazards that may occur, and what steps to take to prevent them from recurring.

The Director of Environmental Health and Safety is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the program under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Facilities Development and Operations Department within the Administration and Finance Division.

The Injury and Illness Prevention Program is composed of 8 Key Elements.

  1. Identity of the person or persons with authority and responsibility for implementing the Program.
  2. Ensuring that employees comply with safe and healthy work practices.
  3. Communicating with employees on matters relating to occupational safety and health.
  4. Identifying and evaluating work place hazards including scheduled periodic inspections to identify unsafe conditions and work practices.
  5. Procedures to investigate occupational injury or occupational illness.
  6. Procedures for correcting unsafe or unhealthy conditions, work practices and work procedures in a timely manner based on the severity of the hazard.
  7. Provide training and instruction.
  8. Records of the steps taken to implement and maintain the program.
