Auditions

Auditions for theatre and film productions are held at the beginning of each semester. Specific audition information and requirements are posted on the main page of the Film and Theatre website at www.sjsu.edu/filmandtheatre and below

Auditions are open to all SJSU students, regardless of major. Students cast in University Theatre Productions earn credit in TA 117 - 1 unit (Practice in Acting or Directing) or TA 112 - 3 units (Rehearsal and Performance). Students can earn credit for film projects by enrolling in RTVF 136.

Each University Theatre production also provides opportunities for students to work as member of the production crew (lighting, sound, costuming, make-up, stage hand, etc.) and earn credit in TA 91 or TA 191 (Production Activity).

However, during the pandemic, TA 91 is not being offered and TA 191 will have a new, but temporary virtual instruction format (TA 191 courses have been temporarily redesigned to accommodate the changes with our theatre productions. As a result, until classes return to campus and productions use full student crews, TA 191 will not require the completion of practicum hours).
