Standards of Excellence
San José State University seeks to recognize and foster relationships with those social/cultural/general-interest fraternities and sororities that contribute positively to the community and to the mission of SJSU. It is required that each fraternity and sorority meet the minimum standards in order to be compliant and in good standing with the University.

FSL Awards
Nominations for 2021-2022 FSL Awards are now open!
All nominees and winners will be recognized at the FSL Awards Celebration on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at 6:00pm in the Student Union Ballroom A&B.
- Fraternity & Sorority Member(s) of the Year
-
One Fraternity member and one Sorority member who best exemplifies the values of Greek Life at San José State University will be selected as the Fraternity and Sorority Members of the Year. Individuals that are nominated will be evaluated based on information provided specifically describing their character, scholastic performance, chapter, Greek Life, University & greater community involvement, public service, etc. throughout their undergraduate career.

- Emerging Sorority/Fraternity Leader(s) of the Year
-
One Fraternity and one Sorority member who is identified as having demonstrated taking initiative or action, and showed an ability to inspire and lead within their fraternity/sorority and/or the Greek community. Individuals that are nominated will be judged on the information provided on how they exemplified chapter values, took action/got involved regardless of a title or position, and served as a role model for other members within the organization. This award is intended for newer members within the Fraternity & Sorority community (less than one year in the organization); looking to highlight those members that have made an impact in the short time in which they've been active.

- Fraternity and Sorority Advisor(s) of the Year

The Fraternity and Sorority Advisor of the Year Awards recognize 2 organization alumni/ae or SJSU campus advisors that go above and beyond to motivate, challenge, and support the undergraduate officers and members. These people demonstrate their commitment by being present at relevant Chapter events and meetings, assists with organizational goal setting and transitions, serves as a role model to the members, mentors individual students, and more.

- Fraternity & Sorority President(s) of the Year

One Fraternity President and one Sorority President who demonstrated exemplary leadership during their term as chapter president will be selected as the Fraternity and Sorority Presidents(s) of the Year. Individuals that are nominated will be evaluated based on information provided specifically describing their character, leadership, resilience, and overall performance as president.

- Outstanding Philanthropy/Fundraiser Program of the Year

This award recognizes a chapter that has planned a program or initiative that has contributed positively to the community in regards to creating awareness for a philanthropy and/or fundraising for the philanthropy. Considerations for this award will not only take into account the amount raised (monetary dollars or in-kind), but also how the chapter educated its chapter members and the wider SJSU community on the cause/organization.

- Outstanding Academic Program of the Year

This award recognizes a chapter that has planned a program or initiative that has contributed positively to the SJSU community and it's chapter in regards to academic excellence. This award recognizes a program or initiative planned by a chapter that has provided structure, support, or ability to explore scholarship and academic excellence amongst attendees and members Both single events and on-going programs are eligible. This may include events like workshops, invited speakers, panels, etc.

- Outstanding Alumni Program of the Year

This award recognizes a program planned by a chapter that has included alumni to enhance the collegiate experience and contribute to the personal and professional growth of its current members. Both single events and on-going programs are eligible. This may include events like workshops, informational interviews, panels, etc.

- Outstanding Educational Program of the Year

This award recognizes a chapter that has planned an outstanding program that has contributed positively to the San José State University community. This award recognizes a program planned by a chapter that has provided insight to a topic and organized with the intent for attendees to learn more about a specific topic, subject or concept. Both single events and on-going programs are eligible. This may include events like workshops, invited speakers, panels, etc.

- Outstanding Contribution to Service of the Year

This award recognizes efforts towards community service. Considerations for this award will not only take into account total community service hours, but also how the chapter educated its chapter members and the wider SJSU community on the cause/organization.

- Outstanding Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Program of the Year
-
This award recognizes a chapter that has planned an outstanding program that has contributed positively to the San José State University community. This award recognizes a program or initiative planned or coordinated by a chapter that has provided insight to topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; social justice and organized with the intent for members and attendees to learn more about a specific topic, subject or concept; bring awareness to social issues or diversity, equity and inclusion practices. Single events and on-going programs are eligible. This may include events like workshops, invited speakers, panels, etc.

- Outstanding Risk Reduction/Safety Program of the Year

This award recognizes a chapter that has planned an outstanding program in the area of risk reduction and safety. The program will be recognized for providing an opportunity for chapter members and/or the wider SJSU community to gain insight into managing risk and being proactive to keep one another and the campus community safe and healthy. Both single events and on-going programs are eligible. This may include events like workshops, invited speakers, panels, etc.

- Outstanding in Virtual Innovation

This award recognizes a program, campaign or initiative coordinated by a chapter utilizing unique technological methods to bring an educational or social event to life in the midst of a pandemic-affected school year. Both single events and on-going programs are eligible. This may include using social media platforms, websites, third-party programs, etc. Both single events and on-going programs are eligible.

- Outstanding in External Communication & Online Presence

This award recognizes a chapter utilizing unique technological methods to convey information and promote their chapter in the midst of a pandemic-affected school year. This may include chapter social media platforms, websites, newsletters, third-party programs, etc.

- Outstanding in Program Collaboration
-
This award recognizes a program, campaign or initiative coordinated by a chapter who partnered with another student organization, campus department, external stakeholder or community organization. For 2020, we will recognize one fraternity program and one sorority program. Both single events and on-going programs are eligible. This does not include participation or attendance to another organization's event. This award is for active and equal collaborations from planning to conception. This may include events like workshops, invited speakers, panels, etc.
