Faculty & Accreditation
SJSU has more than 2,000 professors and lecturers and almost 30,000 students. We are a very large school, but our average class size is small -- less than 36 students. Our colleges and departments are accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Various programs are accredited by specialized accrediting agencies. Additional information can be found on the university's WASC Accreditation site.
English Language Development
If your child has not yet achieved the required English language proficiency score for admission to San Jose State University, our Academic and Test Preparation program at International Gateways can help them develop the language skills they need. We provide intensive English study for students who plan to attend an American college or university.
Financial Assistance
Your child may be eligible for student assistant jobs and scholarships offered by your major department. Fellowships and scholarships are also offered by organizations or agencies, other than SJSU, such as churches or fraternal organizations. You can research potential scholarship opportunities on websites such as IEFA: Resource for Financial Aid, scholarship and grant information or FastWeb: Scholarship search engine.
Career Planning
The SJSU Career Center can help your child plan their future by showing them how to make wise career planning decisions. Our Career Consultants can teach them how to:
- find a career with their major
- develop a strategy to find internships and jobs
- connect with employers
- write effective resumes and cover letter
- create their work portfolio
- prepare for a job interview with confidence
At the Career Center, they can also find information about job trends, job opportunities,
employer events, and get great advice on how to find their way in the job market.
They can just drop in or make an appointment to speak with a consultant.
Student Health Center
The Student Health Center has a licensed pharmacy, a physical therapy department, a laboratory, and an x-ray department. It provides medical care to students currently enrolled at SJSU. The doctors and nurses at the Health Center treat injuries, and illnesses. Students who require immediate attention may get same day appointments. Others may schedule advance appointments for medical concerns that do not need urgent medical attention. Appointments can be made by telephone, or online.
Spartan Recreation
Regular exercise is essential to good health. The Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center at San Jose State University has a great selection of facilities, fitness classes, recreation activities, and personal training, etc.
