SJSU Phased Adapt Plan

San José State University is currently in “Phase 2: Modified Campus” of the SJSU Adapt plan. It is important to note that the conditions for each phase are provisional and SJSU could move backwards or forwards in phases based on updated guidelines from the Santa Clara County Public Health Department, state public health guidelines and/or the California State University Office of the Chancellor.

Phase 1: Virtual Campus

  • Mandated Santa Clara County health order
  • Only essential staff are working on campus
  • Faculty are permitted to work on campus for instructional purposes
  • Most employees are telecommuting
  • Education is purely online or virtual
  • Research is online except for critical activities
  • Disinfecting protocols are developed
  • Physical distancing guidelines are implemented

Phase 2: Modified Campus

  • Santa Clara County health order is still in effect
  • Essential staff continue to report to campus
  • Staff who are not effectively able to perform essential and/or critical functions remotely may be permitted to work on campus
  • Faculty are permitted to work on campus for instructional purposes
  • Telework is highly encouraged
  • Education is primarily online or virtual
  • Deadline-driven research is gradually resumed on campus
  • Physical distancing guidelines, disinfecting protocols, trainings, and screening measures are implemented to ensure the safe increase in the numbers of employees working on campus
  • Potential screening measures and protocols are developed
  • Employee trainings for self-screening and hygienic behavior are developed

Phase 3: Hybrid Campus

  • Santa Clara County health order is still in effect for specific populations at greater risk for infection
  • Essential staff and staff who are not effectively able to perform critical responsibilities remotely continue to report to campus
  • Additional staff may be permitted to work on campus with manager permission
  • Telework is still highly encouraged
  • Education takes the form of a hybrid learning modalities with proper safety and distancing protocols in place
  • On-campus and field research is expanded with proper safety protocols
  • Implementation of physical distancing measures and trainings continue

Phase 4: Repopulated Campus

  • Full repopulation of campus
  • Certain protocols may still be in effect to minimize any future transmission, depending on the state of the vaccine and other mitigating factors
