SJSU Self-Attestation

To comply with the CSU's vaccination policy deadline of September 30, SJSU students and employees have self-attested to being vaccinated against COVID-19. As of October 18, here are the attestation numbers and percentages for the SJSU campus community.

Vaccination Information - All Campus

CSU’s Interim Vaccination Policy mandates that students, faculty and staff must be vaccinated against COVID-19 if they are accessing campus facilities at any university location across the 23 campuses. Auxiliary employees as well as volunteers and other unpaid appointments are also subject to this policy. Unless otherwise stated, the date for compliance with this policy is September 30, 2021. The policy allows for medical and religious exemptions. California Department of Public Health orders of July 26 and August 5 also require vaccination by September 30 and apply to all employees in the Student Wellness Center (SWC) and the University Police Department (UPD). 

SJSU is requiring all students in university housing to be fully vaccinated and sign the new 2021-2022 COVID-19 Addendum prior to moving in. Any student who is not fully vaccinated and/or does not sign the addendum will not be allowed to move into on-campus housing

If certification and verification of COVID-19 vaccination status is not provided to the university by September 30, 2021: 

Students: In accordance with SJSU Presidential Directive 2021-02 [pdf], students who did not complete their attestation and supporting documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption by September 30, 2021, will be placed in the student conduct process for interim suspension from on-campus access. If, at the end of that process, their vaccination attestation is still not completed, these students will be dropped from in-person classes and hybrid classes with on-campus meetings, and are not allowed to access the campus.

Represented employees (except APC): Per policy, public health orders and/or MOUs, vaccination is a condition of employment. Thus, failure to provide certification of vaccination or exemption status within prescribed policy or negotiated timelines may result in formal consequences up to and including dismissal.
Non-represented employees, including auxiliary employees: You may be subject to formal consequences up to and including dismissal. 
Volunteers and other unpaid appointments: You will be dismissed.

SJSU Mask Policy

On Monday, August 2, Santa Clara County announced new public health orders in light of the continued emergence of the Delta variant. The orders require all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, to wear face coverings when indoors in public settings beginning Tuesday, August 3. 

SJSU is in compliance with the county’s order, which means as of August 3 masks or face coverings must be worn by everyone while inside campus facilities or in a shared vehicle for a university-sponsored activity. The only exception is if you are in a private office alone with the door closed or when you are eating or drinking. 

In addition, individuals who are not fully vaccinated are also required to wear a mask when conducting field research tasks requiring interactions, and when outdoors and it is not possible to maintain six feet of physical distance from others. 

Exceptions to the above for unvaccinated individuals are: 1) When alone in a vehicle while conducting a university-sponsored activity; 2) When alone in a private office with the door closed; 3) If work cannot be achieved safely with a mask in place; or 4) If an individual has an approved accommodation.

Vaccination Verification Process - All Campus

Students, faculty and staff must verify their vaccination status by September 30, as applicable, to comply with the CSU vaccination policy. Auxiliary employees as well as volunteers and other unpaid appointments are also subject to this policy.

Mandatory COVID-19 Testing

Students, faculty, staff, auxiliary employees, volunteers and other unpaid appointments who access campus and other SJSU facilities and have not verified they are fully vaccinated will be subject to mandatory COVID-19 testing. You will be removed from testing protocols if you self-attest and provide documentation that you are fully vaccinated. This mandate applies to all employees, represented and non-represented.

Testing will occur on campus — or at off-campus worksites, if applicable — at no cost on a weekly basis. Individuals who provide proof that they are fully vaccinated will not be required to undergo testing. Exemption from vaccination is not an exemption from testing. Those failing to test when required to do so will be subject to formal consequences.
