Message from the Department Chair
Welcome to the Department of Hospitality, Tourism & Event Management at San José State University (SJSU). We are one of the most vibrant departments on our campus!
The Department of Hospitality, Tourism & Event Management has existed for almost 25 years (anniversary celebration in 2017-2018!) and continues to grow with our amazing faculty, students, and alumni. This department takes great pride in its history and achievement in successfully preparing students for exciting careers in the Hospitality industry!!
During student transition to the university life and to reach graduation, our students partake in many hospitality management job opportunities in the heart of Silicon Valley and in the broader Bay Area. There are also several opportunities to participate widely in the community and university. Many of our students are highly active in numerous student groups, for example, the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) and the Pebble Beach Special Event Management Team (SEMT).
Our curriculum equips students with the knowledge and necessary skills to perform professionally and become leaders in the Hospitality Industry. With a degree in Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management, our alumni have a wide range of hospitality related careers including Hotel/Resort General Manager, Financial Controller, Catering Coordinator, Meeting Planner, Sales Director, Marketing Manager, Conference/Tradeshow Manager, Banquet and Events Coordinator, Restaurant Manager, etc. Our alumni are among the most prominent professionals in the Hospitality Industry.
