Join our weekly Global Connections meetup to connect with people from around the world, explore cultural topics, and learn tips for improving your overall well being. 

Each week we rotate through different themes:

  • S=Social: Meet others, play games, and hang out.
  • C=Culture: Develop intercultural skills and explore cultural topics.   
  • W=Wellness: Tips & tricks to a healthy mind and body.
  • D=Diversity in America: Learn, share, and ask about diversity in the U.S.

In fall 2021, we'll meet online every Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (PT). Everyone is welcome. Join us!

Join us for fun and games! Connect with peers and SJSU staff who are here to support you. Learn more about Global Connections.

August 31, 2021 | Friendships & Relationships | Social, Culture

We'll be chatting about what friendships and relationships look like around the world. Plus, we'll discuss some ways you can make friends here in the U.S. This session is led by Dr. Kyoung Mi Choi and Dr. Robert Marx from the Lurie College of Education.

September 7, 2021 | Checking in! How's it going? | Wellness

This will be a time for international students to connect with one another and check in with how the semester is going. We'll also see how you're doing adjusting to the U.S. and the SJSU system. Come join us to meet new friends and learn about resources on campus.

September 21, 2021 | Mid-Autumn Festivals | Culture, Diversity

Many cultures have festivals in the fall to celebrate the change of season or the harvest. Examples might include the Moon Festival or Mid-Autumn Celebration. Come and share your culture's fall traditions and learn about other fall festivals around the world.

September 28, 2021 | Adjusting to the U.S.: How's it going? | Wellness

This will be a part II to 'Checking In? How is it going?' on 9/7 and we will continue to have space for international students to connect with one another, and help each other adjust to the U.S. and SJSU system. It can be a lot to move to a new country and/or adjust to a new school. Come join us to have fun and get support!

October 12, 2021 | Wellness 101: Taking Care of Yourself | Wellness

This session will focus on learning about ways to manage stress and how to try to engage in a balanced life. We will also discuss what wellness looks like across the globe as well and learn from each other on how we can take care of ourselves and others better!

October 19, 2021 | Gender, Sexuality, and Culture | Culture, Diversity

Join us to learn more about LGBTQ+ identities through a multicultural lens. You will have the opportunity to meet other students and share your perspectives through engaging activities.  We welcome everyone from our SJSU community, no matter your identity!

This session is hosted by Vinson Vu, PRIDE Center Event Coordinator and Jace Chang, MOSAIC Cultural Programmer, with the support of Dr. Kyoung Mi Choi and Dr. Robert Marx from the Lurie College of Education. Learn more about Dr. Choi and Dr. Marx's Queer Educators and Counselors Network (QECN).

Get into the Halloween spirit, put on a spooky virtual background, and join us for some fun Halloween-themed activities, including sharing ghost stories from around the world.

Diwali or the Festival of Lights is one of the major holidays celebrated in India. This week's Global Connections will be led by Global Leader Aadesh Sharma and Riya Shah, who will share about their Diwali traditions. Come and celebrate with us!

November 9, 2021 | Being Kind to Yourself | Wellness

This session will focus on learning about the elements of self-compassion and thinking about how we can kind to ourselves in ways that fit our cultural background and who we are. While it may be easy to think that we should be kind to ourselves, this is easier said than done. Come join us to learn about how to be compassionate to ourselves and how this can enrich our lives further such as being more productive!

November 16, 2021 | Thanksgiving & Harvest Celebrations | Culture, Diversity

This week we're talking about Thanksgiving and other celebrations around the world. Come share your story and learn from others!
