International Coffee Hour

12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Location: Student Union 3B

This week's theme is international bingo. Come enjoy great company and conversation! This is a great opportunity to meet new friends from across the SJSU campus and around the world in a casual and comfortable environment. Free food, coffee and prizes will be provided. All students welcome. No registration is necessary. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services and Counseling and Psychological Services and International Gateways.

Global Discovery Day & Study Abroad Fair

Location: Tommie Smith/John Carlos Lawn

Join the campus at Global Discovery Day! Come to discover opportunities across campus that will help you develop skills needed to thrive in a global society. You will learn how you too can study abroad and find opportunities to get engaged in the world without leaving the U.S. or, even, San Jose. Free food and giveaways! Come explore and find your adventure! This event is sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services.

 

Navigating the International Student Internship Process: A Guide for Faculty and Staff

12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Location: Student Union 4A

Join this informal lunch discussion for faculty and staff to learn about the steps international students need to take to do an off-campus internship. Lunch will be provided. International House Coffee Night

8:30 - 10:30 p.m.

Location: International House (360 South 11th St, San Jose, CA 95112)

Say What?! American Idioms for International Students

12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Location: Industrial Studies, Room 113

Join us for a fun and interactive session where we will explain the meaning/origins of some of the most commonly used American idioms and in which context to use them. Come ready to share and learn some international idioms as well. FREE pizza will be provided! Open to all SJSU students. This event is sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services and International Gateways.

Immigration Attorney H1-B Presentation

3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Location: Student Union, 3A

Learn about the H1-B application process and an overview of other employment based visas. This information will be presented by immigration attorney, Nadia Yakoob. This event is sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services.

International Student Advising for Faculty and Staff

Time: 12:45 - 1:45 p.m.

Location: Clark Hall, Room 412

What does SEVIS mean? What is a Form I-20? What is the difference between visa and visa status? Can international students work? Can they study part-time? Join this session to learn about the federal regulations and institutional policies international students are required to comply with while attending SJSU in order to maintain their F-1 immigration status. We will go through key immigration terms, important documents, how certain academic situations can impact F-1 student status, and the consequences violations of F-1 status have on both our students and our institution. This event is sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services.

Jumpstart your Career in Business 

3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Location: Student Union, Room 4A

Listen to current international students and alumni talk about how they landed their internship or job in the U.S. Panelists will share their job search strategies and experience getting work authorization. Open to all SJSU students. Light refreshments provided. This event is co-sponsored by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services and the Career Center.

 

Dublin San Jose Sister Cities Flag Raising Ceremony & SJSU International Student Scholarship Recognition

5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Location: San Jose City Hall

This joint event with the Dublin San Jose Sister Cities organization will recognize outstanding members of our community including SJSU student scholars, SJSU International Educator, and the Spirit of Ireland honoree.

International Quiz & Scavenger Hunt

12:30 - 4:30 p.m.

Location: International House- 360 S 11th St, San Jose, CA 95112

Did you know M&M's actually stands for "Mars & Murrie's," the last names of the candy's founders? Or that Atacama is the name of the extremely dry desert in northern Chile where no rain has been recorded to date?  Join us for some fun filled trivia facts from around the globe! Come alone, or with a team of up to eight. Get the chance to explore a bit more of San Jose. This event is sponsored by the International House.
