ISSS is pleased to present our new program Thanksgiving Together, which places interested SJSU international students into the homes of faculty and staff volunteers to share a Thanksgiving meal together. Thanksgiving Together is a wonderful opportunity for cross-cultural sharing and a great way to connect with our Global Spartan community. We hope you will join us this November for Thanksgiving Together!
Information for Hosts
Many of our international students and scholars may not have had an opportunity to visit an American home or enjoy a “traditional” Thanksgiving meal. With their families so far away, some may have little to do as campus empties over the long weekend.
Whether your home is big or small, your Thanksgiving celebration traditional or non-traditional, what truly matters is the shared experience you will have together and the impact that you can make on that student’s experience here in America. We hope you’ll consider hosting an international student or two on Thanksgiving.
To volunteer as a host family, please fill out this form no later than November 1, 2019.
Host families and students will be notified about their matches via email by November 15, 2019. Once notifications have been made, host families are asked to please contact their student(s) directly to make arrangements.
Information for International Students and Scholars
Have you ever wondered what Thanksgiving is like in an American home? ISSS will connect you with volunteer SJSU faculty and staff who would like to welcome you into their home for a Thanksgiving meal together. This year, Thanksgiving falls on November 28th.
This is a great way to learn more about American culture and experience life in an American home. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for SJSU faculty and staff to get to know you better and perhaps learn more about where you’re from and what your experience at SJSU is like.
Interested students should fill out an application form and must be able to commit to participating in this program. Applications are due no later than November 8, 2019.
ISSS will do our best to match each applicant with a host family; however, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to place all applicants. Host families and students will be notified about their matches via email by November 15, 2019.
Students who have been matched with a host family are expected to communicate directly with their host family to solidify plans. ISSS will not manage communication between students and host families.
