Duo MFA For Students


Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds a second layer of security to your SJSUOne account by verifying your identity using a second factor provided through the free Duo Mobile app. Duo can prevent someone from logging into your account, even if they know your password. To activate Duo MFA for your SJSUOne account, follow the steps below:

#1: Install the Duo Security App

To use this service, first install the Duo Security mobile app on your mobile device.

#2: Register for SJSU DUO

After you register, Duo should be enabled for your account within one hour.

At your next login, a series of prompts will guide you through the self service Duo Mobile enrollment process. The initial enrollment should be completed by logging in from a web browser on a computer, and having your phone with you.

#3: Secure Log In

Once your enrollment is complete, every time your SJSU ID and Password is requested, you will also get a notification pushed to your mobile device. Acknowledge this notification to complete the login process.

After you have enrolled in Duo, the next time you'll need to reset your password will be in two years.

Personal data collection

Will downloading the DUO app allow for the collection of personal data from my device?

No. Duo Mobile cannot see your user data like your contacts, it cannot read your text messages, it cannot access your photos (but it can use your camera to scan a QR code if you explicitly allow that permission), it cannot access your files, it cannot erase your device, it cannot see information about other applications on your device. Duo Mobile cannot track your location. In general, the only personal data that Duo Mobile knows about you are the service accounts that you explicitly add to Duo Mobile.
