Rosa Vega

Rosa Vega, Interim Chief Medical Examiner-Coroner Investigator

In 2000 Rosa Vega obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State University where she studied Administration of Justice and Physical Anthropology. She later earned a Master's of Science degree from Loyola University New Orleans in Criminal Justice Administration with a concentration in Forensic Science Administration.

In 2005 she was hired by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office. Rosa has 12 1/2 years of investigative experience and has performed thousands of death investigations; including homicides, accidents, suicides and child deaths. In 2016 Rosa was promoted to Interim Chief Investigator. Despite the arduous task of management, she continues to perform death investigations because that is truly her passion.

Rosa is a member of the California State Coroner's Association, California Homicide Investigator's Association and is a Registered Diplomate with the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. She also serves as a member of the Santa Clara County Child Death Review Team. Rosa aspires to teach and hopes to one day become a member of SJSU’s Justice Studies Department faculty.

She is a proud mother to three sons ages 22, 8 and 6. In her spare time, she enjoys working out, running races and traveling with her husband and friends.



Gil Zamora

Gil Zamora, Forensic Artist for San José Police Department (retired)

Gil is certified by the FBI in composite art and he’s taught detectives how to interview eyewitnesses. He is a trained forensic hypnotist and an expert in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction.  Gil spent seventeen years with San José Police Dept. working with victims and witnesses to help solve crimes. He has interviewed peoples in the most traumatic of circumstances: victims in their hospital beds, victims in their homes after a violent home invasion, witnesses after horrific shootings on the street.  


After 17 years as the forensic artist for San Jose PD, Gil became the spokesman for the Dove Real Beauty Sketches campaign.  His forensic interview technique enables him to interview real people about how they see themselves, and how others see them more beautiful.  

He’s been a guest on Oprah and Katie; the Today Show and Good Morning America; Forensic Files and Deadline: Crime.  He has written about his extensive experiences as the forensic artist for the Real Beauty Sketches campaign, and he enjoys sharing his Perspective Sketches experience with audiences around the country.
