Professor Bio

Susana uses her expertise in Organizational Development (emphasis on bi-cultural evaluation, leadership coaching, culture management, community engagement, capacity building, and strategic planning) to support the development of equitable communities. She has worked with non-profits, government institutions, and foundations supporting systems change evaluation and cultural shifts both at the local and national level. Her background is in the interconnection of public health and community economic development.

Susana experience is grounded in the life course perspective. She has worked in significant issues around ageing in senior centers, assisted living communities and dementia units, adult development, youth development, and early childhood development. She applies mixed methods to further understand complex issues in the areas of workforce development, education policy, community participatory planning and research, community economic development, entrepreneurship, community health, and youth development.

Susana grew up in East Oakland. Since her youth, she has always believed in the power of community. Her deep roots in the Bay and her lifelong journey toward creating equitable opportunities for all dictate her approach to her work.
