Bethany Shifflett, Ph.D.

Teaching at San José State University in the Department of Kinesiology since 1987. Doctoral and Masters degree from the University of Iowa; Bachelors degree from Southern Connecticut State College. Thirteen years coaching gymnastics; 30 years teaching at SJSU. Academic area of expertise is measurement & evaluation; activity area is ballroom dance. Engaged in research with peer reviewed publications (23) and conference presentations (40). Related professional activities have included serving as President for the Western Society for Kinesiology and Wellness and work as a research design and analysis consultant. Service activities include peer reviewer for conference papers and journal publications, institutional accreditation reviews, faculty support for online teaching including learning management system training, faculty advisor for the SJSU ballroom dance club, and service at the University and State level in the capacity of academic senator. Honors received include the University and College distinguished service awards, University Meritorious Performance and Professional Promise Award, and Young Scholar Award received from the Western Physical Education Society.
