How and When to Change/Declare
If you plan to change your major and apply for graduation, please first complete the process below ASAP during our drop-in advising hours.
Process to change/declare a major
Step 1: Identify how many cumulative units you have earned.
Less than 90 units earned:
- review and confirm you meet our requirements. If you do, continue to step 2.
- if so, all courses must show on your Course History and/or Transfer Credit Report
- if your courses do not show on your Transfer Credit Report, please bring an unofficial transcript
Greater than or equal to 90 units earned, complete the following:
- review and confirm you meet our requirements
- the greater than or equal to 90 units earned petition [pdf]
- the appropriate Business Administration Major Form (14 options). Review the Sammy Spartan major form [pdf] (sample) for support.
- a personal statement. Review the sample personal statement [pdf] for support.

Step 2: Meet with a business advisor during drop-in (service #2) academic advising hours.
- A business advisor will confirm you meet our requirements and review and submit your petition documents if applicable
- If you meet our requirements, we will process your request
- In 7-10 business days you will receive an email notifying you that a change has been made to your MyProgress report. At that time, you will see that the Business minor has been added to your program plan.

Process to declare the Business Minor
Step 1: Confirm you meet our requirements to declare.
Requirements to declare the Business minor:
- BUS3 160 – Fundamentals of Management & Organizational Behavior
- 1 Upper-Division or 1 Lower-Division business course
- SJSU Cum GPA: 2.6 or better.
Review the business minor requirements to earn the degree.
Step 2: Submit a Request to declare/add the Business minor.
- A business advisor will confirm you meet our requirements
- If you meet our requirements, we will process your request
- In 7-10 business days you will receive an email notifying you that a change has been made to your MyProgress report. At that time, you will see that the Business minor has been added to your program plan.
