Professor Susan Verducci

Liberal Studies Teacher Preparation is an 'Elementary Education' major at SJSU. Through a rich, rigorous, and cross-disciplinary program of study, we prepare teachers who create relevant and transformative educational experiences for students. We are home to future TK-8 teachers who wish to pursue one of three undergraduate pathways: a traditional Bachelors Degree (BA) in Liberal Studies Teacher Preparation, or one of two Integrated Teacher Education Programs (ITEPs) that lead to a BA with a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential embedded into the Senior Year. Students can also choose an ITEP pathway that includes a Spanish Bilingual Authorization which allows them to teach in a bilingual classroom. Liberal Studies students apply to the ITEPs in the second semester of their Junior Year. More information on these program pathways is located in our Advisement Guide.

All Liberal Studies pathways are approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) for waiver of the elementary subject matter examination (CSET for Multiple Subjects) required to earn a teaching credential (see Advisement Guide for more information). All pathways offer early and ongoing practical experiences in local schools and hands-on advising.

We welcome you to explore Liberal Studies!
