American Meteorological Society SJSU Student Chapter

About Us

The San José Student Chapter of AMS is a recognized student organization at San José State University for anyone and everyone interested in or passionate about weather, meteorology, and climatology! We strive to develop our members both personally and professionally by educating students about the meteorological field, discussing career paths, networking with scientists and fellow spartans, helping students in their meteorology studies, and growing as a community.

Enrique Salvidor
President of AMS Student Chapter

Hello everyone. My name is Enrique, but everyone calls me Quique. I am going to my 4th year as a Meteorology major and am thrilled to be the new treasure for SCAMS. My favorite weather phenomenon is the North American Monsoon. I have always been intrigued by it as a kid and plan to pursue my Masters in improving forecasts for the North American Monsoon. When I have free time, I like to ride my bike and explore new places, and I enjoy gardening, with agaves and palm trees being my favorite plants.

Sonia Dosanjh
Social Media Chair

Hello fellow weather enthusiasts! My name is Sonia and my major is Meteorology with a Climate Science concentration. I’m starting my fourth year at San Jose State and currently the Social Media Chair of SJSU AMS student chapter for the 2022-2023 school year! I’m passionate about climate science and would love to learn more about the cryosphere as part of the Earth’s climate. Although, I’m currently undecided what I will plan to do after I complete my undergraduate degree, I do know I would like to work in the field of climate science and environmental science. Other than climate science, I’m passionate about music/music production, painting, fashion design/styling, and reading!

Jeremy Benik
Treasurer

Hello everyone, my name is Jeremy. I am a first-year graduate student in the Wildfire Interdisciplinary Research Center, and I am a part of Dr. Adam Kochanski’s modeling team. I am the new Treasurer for SCAMS for the 2022 semester and I’m super stoked about that! I’m passionate about fire weather as I’ve always been around fires being from Reno, NV. I’ve always found them interesting and it’s a dream come true for me to be getting my master’s degree in this field. After my master’s degree, I would like to continue modeling. In my free time, I enjoy speedcubing, hiking, running, and playing bass guitar.
