Undergraduate Internships

Many of our students in their junior and senior years have some kind of work experience in the field of Meteorology; sometimes this can be counted (for credit) as an internship. Some examples of recent and current student employment:

National Weather Service in Monterey – Internship program

San Jose Airport – Weather Observers

Applied Weather Technology – Forecasting and Ship Routing

Jeppeson DataPlan – Aviation Weather Services

KNTV – Media Weather with KNTV Chief Meteorologist John Farley

The internship program is administered on an informal basis. Generally, students hear about these opportunities and get recommended by other students and faculty. This is one good reason the beginning student should attend the Student Chapter AMS meetings, where they can meet older students who have had some of the opportunities. Meteorology students will get emails with invitations to AMS events.
