Bio

craig bloviates

With the love, care, compassion and patience of his colleagues and friends, craig has been engaged as a social justice educator for over 25 years. He recently served as the inaugural Director for Equity and Inclusivity at Napa Valley College.  Prior to Napa, he served as a Multicultural Education Specialist at the University of California, Berkeley in the Division of Equity and Inclusion. There he was responsible for working with a team to develop a campus initiative to engage faculty, students and staff on issues of campus climate for equity, human difference and inclusion. craig coordinated multicultural programs and research as well as designing and facilitating diversity trainings and specific workshops at the University of Maryland in the Stamp Student Union Office of Multicultural Involvement and Community Advocacy [MICA]. While at MICA he also helped create the MOSAIC Diversity & Leadership retreat in this roll.  He served the University of Maryland in other roles such as creating a data-driven multicultural organizational development initiative in the Department of Transportation Services, coordinated the Diversity Training and Consultation Services program, as well as created the Social Justice Educator Development Program in the Office of Human Relations Programs [OHRP]. While at OHRP he also assisted with the development and implementation of Student Intercultural Learning Center activities –  including the Words of Engagement: Intergroup Dialogue program. He served as an intern with the Washington Consulting Group while completing a Ph.D. in College Student Personnel Administration with an emphasis in Social Justice Education.

craig has published scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals and has served on a nationwide research projects investigating the educational benefits of Intergroup Relations programs. As a teacher, he has designed and facilitated a number of credited graduate-level and undergraduate courses that engage students in issues of Social Justice. These experiences have afforded him the opportunity to assist academic departments with the development of curricula and programs of study.  In 2006, ACPA: College Student Educators International's Commission for Social Justice Educators had honored craig with their first annual award for Outstanding Social Justice Educator, Trainer, or Mentor.

craig has worked at a variety of educational institutions. Specifically, he has worked for a number of years in both Academic Affairs, as well as College Student Affairs in areas such as Learning Communities, Residence Life, Orientation Programs, and Multicultural Affairs. As an independent educational consultant, craig has consulted with corporate, non-profit, college and university campuses around the country, as well as with government agencies such as the Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights.

Originally from New Jersey, craig earned his B.A. in History and Philosophy from Rider College and a M.S. from Northeastern University in College Student Development and Counseling. He also has an advanced graduate degree from the University of Massachusetts in Social Justice Education
