Bio

Jennifer Schachner received her B.A. and M.A degree in Kinesiology, with a specialization in Adapted Physical Activity from the department of Kinesiology at San Jose State University. She is currently in the Kinesiology Doctoral Program at University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she will graduate in the summer of 2018.  Jennifer is currently the Program and Operations Director of the Timpany Center (a non profit therapeutic recreation facility managed in partnership with SJSU). She is currently an activity instructor, but has also taught several courses in the department including undergraduate courses in Stress Management, Introduction to Kinesiology, Introduction to Adapted Physical Activity, Taekwondo and many other activity classes.  Before engaging with senior fitness, Jennifer was a Program Manager for a corporate fitness company in Silicon Valley as well as a senior fitness instructor for Foothill Community College.   Jennifer is 5th degree black belt in Taekwondo and a specialist in martial arts for older adults and those with disabilities.  Her master’s thesis Wheelchair Martial Arts: An Instructors Manual paved the way to her development of other adapted martial arts program and self-defense classes.   Her doctoral dissertation is entitled The effect of Martial Arts on People over the Age of 60.
