Bio

Kathleen Normington has been on the faculty of the Department of TV, Radio, Film, Theatre since 1999. She teaches Beginning and Advanced Acting, Script Analysis, Theatre Appreciation, Contemporary Theatre, Voice and Movement and Great Comedies of the Theatre. Her creative projects include, writing and directing Words, Words, Words: Will's Way for STEP (School Touring Ensemble Program) which was presented at the 2005 CETA conference. She has frequently collaborated with Dr. Adrienne Eastwood on The Shakespeare Project here on campus. At SJSU, she has directed Harold Pinter's Mountain Language, Love's Fire, Big Love by Charles Mee, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, and Twelfth Night, Mary Zimmerman's The Secret in the Wings, Jane Austen's Emma, Peter Weiss's Marat/Sade and an adaptation of John Cheever's short stories by Professor Matthew Spangler, titled The Swimmer and Other Suburban Stories. In addition she has been active in local theatre, most significantly, Renegade Theatre Experiment. There she  directed Neil Labute's The Shape of Things, Bill Cain's 9 Circles, Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's Boom and the world premiere of Max Tachis's Perishable: Keep Refrigerated. She has also worked at Dragon Theatre and Shakespeare Santa Cruz.

Kathleen and colleague, Amy Glazer published Simply Acting: A Handbook for Student Actors in 2011.

In 2013, Kathleen was honored with the Outstanding Lecturer award for excellence in teaching.

She currently is adjunct professor at Diablo Valley College, where she teaches Acting, Introduction to Theatre, and Multicultural Theatre in America. She directed their recent production of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew.

Kathleen has lived and worked in Japan and Europe. In 2007, her directorial debut was given the grand prize at the FEATS festival in Brussels, Belgium by the crown prince of Belgium.
