E Michael (Mike) Gorman is an Associate Professor in the SJSU School of Social Work (SSW) , College of the Applied Sciences & the Arts (SASA) , where he teaches policy and research courses in the graduate (MSW) program. Dr Gorman's Ph.D. is in medical anthropology and he subsequently did an MPH in epidemiology prior to entering social work. A major focus of his career has been HIV and substance abuse (SA) , including HIV and SA in LGBT communities. He is also is three time Fulbright Scholar awardee (Tunisia ~2005, Jordan & Oman ~ 2009 , Argentina~2012 ) and is very engaged by global social work and human rights issues. .He developed and led the SSW Argentina course from 2006-2011 and is developing a new initiative for Spain in 2014.

Bio

E Michael Gorman Ph.D.,MPH, MSW Associate Professor of Social Work . Dr Gorman completed his Ph.D. at the University of Chicago in social and medical anthropology and completed additional training in public health (epidemiology) and social welfare at the University of California, Berkeley. He served in the United States Public Health Service at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA. In 2006 he was named Scholar of the Year by the College of Applied Siences and the Arts for his scholarship on drug use. He has published number of scholarly articles, and presentations at more than 30 conferences including the Internal AIDS Conference, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) , the Society for Social Work REsearch (SSWR) , a number of US Public Health Conferences Dr Gorman has received three Fulbright scholar awards : 2 core Fulbrights (Council on the International Exchange of Scholars ~ CIES ) Tunisia ( 2005 ) and Argentina (2012) He also received a Fulbright-Hays Award for Jordan and Oman in 2009. During the course of his tenure at San Jose State he has received several US Public Health Service grant awards , including an R01 by National Institutes of Health (NIH) He has served on editorial boards of a number of scholarly journals , and reviewed publications for approximately seven other journals in the health and health science fields. He developed and led the SJSU SSW Argentina course from 2006-2011 and is anticipating leading a new course in Spain in 2014 .
