Bio

Dr. Lee's research areas include Alzheimer's disease/dementia knowledge, perceptions and stigma in Asian Americans, family and professional caregiving in dementia care, home and community-based service use in dementia caregiving, cultural competence in social work practice and research with Asian American populations, ethnogeriatris and gerontological social work education.

Her completed/ongoing research projects include: (1) Knowledge and perceptions of Alzheimer’s disease and attitudes toward community services use among Korean immigrants funded by the UCLA Quality of Graduate Education Supplemental Allocation Program; (2) Assessment of health and psychological well-being of residents in a multi-ethnic independent living housing funded by the California Endowment (Co-PI with Dr. Sadhna Diwan);(3) Dementia literacy among older Vietnamese immigrants funded by the Office of Faculty Affairs, SJSU; (4) Exploring interface of culture, health literacy and health promotion among older Asian immigrants with limited English proficiency funded by College of Applied Sciences and Arts, SJSU; and (5) Multidisciplinary healthy aging and wellness programs at senior nutrition sites in San Jose funded by Department of Parks, Recreations, and Neighborhood Services, City of San Jose (Co-PI with Dr. Sadhna Diwan).

Prior to joining SJSU in 2006, Dr. Lee worked as a research associate on several research projects: (1) the Practicum Partnership Program, National Initiative for Geriatric Social Work Education funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation; (2) the Asian Pacific Islanders Dementia Care Network funded by the federal Administration on Aging and California Department of Aging; (3) the Health Access for Pacific Asian Seniors funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and California Department of Aging; and (4) Korean Community Empowerment Project: Prevention of Domestic Violence funded by California Department of Health Services Maternal and Child Health Branch, Domestic Violence Section.

She has taught courses on social work practice, social welfare policies/programs and research methods at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In recognition of her teaching and service to students, she received outstanding associate professor award from National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Silicon Valley Chapter in 2015.
