BACKGROUND:
Holly Royaltey earned her EdD in Educational Leadership and Social Justice from San
Francisco State University in 2016. Her dissertation focused on the post-secondary
transition and effects of students who were dually enrolled in the AVID and International
Baccalaureate programs. She has been a high school history teacher for 16 years, having taught
in the Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and AVID (Advancement Via
Individual Determination) programs. She is currently involved as a teacher leader
in the Integrated Action Civics cohort at the Santa Clara County Office of Education,
as well as the Civics and History projects at UC Santa Cruz, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis.
She is looking forward to co-facilitating a statewide teacher collaborative for US
history teachers this fall in addition to teaching full time at Del Mar High School
and SJSU. She has presented at the California Council for Social Sciences annual conferences
in 2019, and most recently, in 2020, on "Cultivating a Punk Attitude in the Classroom."
Holly is married with a 19 year old daughter who attends Lewis and Clark College in
Portland, OR. In her spare time, she reads a ton and listens to nerdy podcasts, practices
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and enjoys spending time with her wife, and cats.
