Learn More About Your Degree, Diploma, and Honors

The Office of the Registrar will normally award degrees about one month after the end of the semester.

  • Fall candidates - end of January
  • Spring candidates - middle of June
  • Summer candidates - end of August

Note: Once a degree is posted, the record is sealed, and no changes may be made to your record.  This includes grade changes, adding of a major or minor, or dropping a major or minor.

Name Used on Diploma

We print diplomas using your primary name listed in MySJSU.  To see how your name will appear on your diploma, run a copy of your unnofficial transcript.  The name will be the same on both documents. To update your name, submit the Personal Information Change [pdf] form.

Printing Schedule

The Office of the Registrar prints diplomas on a rolling basis. You can expect to receive your diploma about 3-6 weeks after we award your degree.

  • Fall graduates - late February
  • Spring graduates - early July
  • Summer graduates - middle of September

Standard Delivery

We currently send diplomas by US First Class Mail to the Diploma or Mailing address listed in MySJSU. We do not offer express delivery using couriers such as FedEx or UPS, so we cannot provide any tracking information.

Students are responsible for keeping a current Diploma/Mailing address in MySJSU.  This should be an address that will be available to you 2-3 months after we award your degree. If you are unable to update your address in MySJSU, you may submit the Personal Information Change [pdf] form.

We will send diplomas to international addresses.  However, the format of these addresses may vary. If you wish to use an international address, please update MySJSU and send us an email to ensure we get your address in the correct format.

The Office of the Registrar will only send your diploma.  If you are entitled to any honors, regalia, or other commencement materials, please contact the commencement team.
