Biography
Dr. Julia Gaudinski is Director of Research Development (RD). Prior to joining the
Office of Research, Dr. Gaudinski served as an RD Specialist at University of California
Santa Cruz and worked as a Senior Development and Grant writer at Climate Central.
She also was President and Founder of Mobile Ranger, a science communication company
designed to leverage mobile technology and reshape how people relate to the natural
and human history of places. In addition, Dr. Gaudinski was a research affiliate at
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a postdoctoral researcher at University
of California, Berkeley.
Dr. Gaudinski holds bachelor's degrees in Earth Science and Environmental Studies
from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a Ph.D. in Earth System Science
from the University of California, Irvine. Her research expertise is in terrestrial
carbon cycling particularly in forests and forest soils.
Vision
In this role, Dr. Gaudinski builds SJSU's institutional capacity for extramurally funded research, scholarship, and creative activity (RSCA) by growing a robust RSCA culture that can deliver social and economic benefits to our local, regional, and global communities. Research Development encompasses a set of strategic capacity-building activities designed to enhance faculty and administrators' ability to increase competitiveness and secure extramural RSCA funding. Dr. Gaudinski guides her team of RD professionals in implementing strategic initiatives and collaborative resources that span disciplinary and administrative units, grow SJSU's RSCA enterprise, and facilitate research excellence.
