SJSU 2022/23 RSCA Funding Programs

Request for Proposals

Dear Faculty,

It is with great pleasure that I announce a suite of three SJSU Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (RSCA) competitive funding programs for the 2022/23 academic year. The goal of these programs is to support SJSU teacher-scholars by building capacity to conduct world-class RSCA, incorporate students into RSCA projects, and increase future ability to sustainably fund RSCA through extramural grants.

The programs are summarized below with links to the respective request for proposals on the Office of Research website. Take a close look at the three programs to select the one that fits best with the current stage of your RSCA agenda.

  • The 2022/23 SJSU RSCA Seed Grant Program, partially funded by the CSU Chancellor’s Office — initial seed grant to support faculty starting new RSCA projects with no previous funding.

Proposals are due February 4, 2022. All Unit 3 Faculty are eligible to apply for various funding categories for up to $7,500. See funding categories, amounts, eligibility requirements, and all other details here.

  • The 2022/23 Level-Up Grant: Reaching the Next Level in Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity — funding for faculty with funded (internally or externally) RSCA to take it to the next level through collaboration for follow-on extramural funding.

Proposals are due November 30, 2021. The award period will be June 1, 2022 - May 31, 2023. Up to three awards for multi-disciplinary projects (up to $20,000 each) and up to three awards for multi-institutional projects (up to $30,000 each). Multiple SJSU Principal Investigators (PIs) required. PIs must be tenured or tenure-track SJSU faculty, Co-PIs may be Unit 3 faculty members. See funding categories, amounts, eligibility requirements, and all other details here.

  • New! The 2022/23 VPRI Mid-Career RSCA Fellowship. This is a new funding program for an associate or a late-stage (4+ years) assistant professor to grow a new line of RSCA or take an existing line of RSCA to a substantially higher level.

Proposals are due November 30, 2021. The award period will be June 1, 2022 - May 31, 2023. Up to two awards will be made to single SJSU PIs, up to $20,000 each. See funding categories, amounts, eligibility requirements, and all other details here.

Faculty may only apply for one of the three grant programs. Please reach out to your Associate Dean of Research or Julia Gaudinski, Director of Research Development, if you have questions on which program is best for your current RSCA objectives. Proposals must be submitted using the online InfoReady platform.

I hope that you use one of these funding programs to build or grow your RSCA. My best wishes for a successful proposal.

Sincerely,

Mohamed Abousalem

Vice President for Research and Innovation
