2022/23 Research and Innovation Student RSCA Fellowship

Call for Applications

Dear Students and Faculty,

I am excited to announce the SJSU Research and Innovation Student Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (RSCA) Fellowship for the 2020/23 academic year (R&I SRF) — formerly, the Student RSCA Grant Initiative. This competitive student fellowship is offered by the Division of Research and Innovation to support both undergraduate and graduate students to engage with an SJSU faculty mentor in a funded RSCA project during the period from April 2022 through May 2023. Applications are due February 11, 2022.

The goals of the fellowship are to (1) support high-quality student RSCA experiences, (2) envision students as successful researchers and scholars beyond the fellowship, and (3) enhance the mentoring skills of SJSU faculty in support of student RSCA.

Up to thirty awards of $3,500 each will be granted to successful applicants from all disciplines at SJSU. Fellowship funds are to be used to pay for student assistantships, conference registration fees for students, and/or RSCA-related student travel. Additionally, student fellows, together with their respective faculty mentors, attend a cohort-based R&I SRF mentoring program that meets monthly throughout the 2022/23 academic year and culminates with a poster presentation at the 2023 Celebration of Research.

The Office of Research will be hosting a virtual R&I SRF information Session at 12:15 pm on November 15, 2021 to discuss the program, how to apply, and to answer any questions. The session is designed for both prospective student fellows and faculty mentors to attend. RSVP here.

Students, consider applying to this fellowship and add valuable RSCA experience to your educational portfolio—reach out to a RSCA-active faculty member in a field that interests you and inquire about working with them on a project.

Faculty, if you have a funded RSCA project (internal or external funding), consider being an R&I SRF mentor to advance your RSCA agenda and provide valuable RSCA experiences for students.

I hope all our students and faculty take advantage of this exciting program in support of their RSCA. Please contact officeofresearch@sjsu.edu with any questions.

Best wishes to all.

Sincerely,

Mohamed Abousalem

Vice President for Research and Innovation
