Finding Funding

At SJSU, several divisions, offices, programs and foundations collaborate to offer a variety of resources designed to assist faculty in honing their research interests and crafting grant proposals. The support and services provided by each are listed below. Some services may overlap given the different aspects of processing a grant application, or our entities work in tandem to provide instructional materials.

Office of Research Support

Proposal Development Support: Promoting RSCA Success

The Office of Research strives to support the development of individual and collaborative RSCA efforts throughout the grant development process. 

SJSU RSCA-Related Grant Writing Workshops

The SJSU RSCA-Related Grant Writing Workshops are developed as one component of the UGA in collaboration with the Office of Research (OR), the Tower Foundation/University Advancement, and the Research Foundation (RF). 2019 Workshop dates will be posted when available.

ProQuest Pivot - Funding Database

Identify funding opportunities with ProQuest Pivot, a web-based discovery and workflow tool that combines a comprehensive source of global funding opportunities with the largest collection of scholar profiles. Users can explore new avenues for funding, and manage the results of the process.

Center for Faculty Development Support

The Center for Faculty Development provides grant writing support through topic-centered working groups and other workshops.

National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD)

Visit the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD) website to take advantage of individual member benefits, including a core curriculum of monthly webinars, a series of online multi-week courses, a discussion forum where faculty can exchange ideas and professional productivity strategies with peers at institutions from across the nation, and a weekly “Monday Motivator” newsletter.

The Office of Research holds an institutional membership with NCFDD, enabling SJSU faculty to receive member benefits. 

SJSU Research Foundation Support

The Research Foundation team supports faculty through each step in the research proposal process: planning a project, identifying sources of funding, developing a grant proposal, submitting proposals to sponsoring agencies, and managing business details once the project is funded. Key components include contact with sponsored program managers, project administration guides and ongoing workshops. 

SJSU Tower Foundation Support

Part of the University Advancement Division, the Tower Foundation is SJSU's auxiliary organization dedicated solely to philanthropy. Tower assists with the development, administration, and banking of SJSU philanthropic donations from alumni, friends of the university, corporations, and foundations. The University's Corporate and Foundation Relations team collaborates with faculty and the Tower Foundation on creation and submission of gift and grant proposals to corporations and foundations.

College of Science Education Program

The expertise of the Science Education faculty can help support and inform SJSU endeavors by promoting student success and retention through evidence-based, high-impact practices with the Science Education Program.
