Scholarship Opportunities

The Science Education Program occasionally offers scholarships to reimburse CSET exam fees and other expenses for students applying to the SJSU single subject credential program in science. For questions regarding the scholarships, please email scied@sjsu.edu.

Bissell Scholarship for Science and Math Credential Students (link)
 
The deadline for submitting your materials is August 1, 2021, but we encourage you to submit earlier if possible so we can ensure that your application is complete and will be considered. Please submit your materials to Ana Paz-Rangel (ana.paz-rangel@sjsu.edu), who you can also ask any questions about the application process.
 
 
Microsoft Scholarship for Math and Science Teachers
 
CSU receives grants from Microsoft to increase scholarships for Math, Science Teacher Candidates in California's high-needs schools. (link) 
 
 
 
Susan Barling Frye
  • Award is given (if possible) to a single parent pursuing a teaching credential or a student in the prep to teach in the Department of Biological Sciences.
  • GPA is not a consideration.
  • Student does not need to be full-time
  • Length: 1 year
  • Amount: $2000
  • 1 installment
  • Awarded Spring
 
Bettejean Hill
  • Awards 2 students:One pursing a teaching credential in Math and one in Science. 
  • Scholarship will be used toward paying SJSU teaching credintial fees.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher will be considered first.
  • Students identified by faculty as having similar situation as Bettejean Hill (see attached bio). 
  • Students do not need to be full-time
  • Length: 1 year
  • Amount: $7000 ($3,500 per student)
  • 1 installment
  • Awarded Spring
