Animal Spotlight
Jeremiah is a California Desert Tortoise. The lifespan of a desert tortoise is about 80-100 years. Up to 95% of its life span is spent in burrows to keep away from the hot sun or freezing in temperature in the winter months. They are the most active in the spring when they forage for food. Their limbs are ideal for digging. Their front limbs have heavy claw-like scales and are flat-shaped and their hing limbs are elephant-like.
