Wildlife Ambassador Program

SERC has Wildlife Ambassadors (WA), including snakes, turtles, tortoises, & frogs, available to visit in your classroom for a couple days.

Wildlife Ambassador lessons give students the opportunity to make observations about animal behaviors, adaptations, and anatomy of living beings that they rarely have the opportunity to see up close. Pre-service and in-service teachers who want Wildlife Ambassadors to visit their classroom are required to go through an application & mandatory training process to become a certified. Once certified, teachers can make a reservation to bring the Wildlife Ambassadors to their classroom for up to four days Monday -Thursday.  The SJSU IACUC Committee only allows our live animals to travel to schools that are within a commute range of 45 minutes to 1 hour so animals are not in a car for too long.  If you are farther away, please check out our other hands-on science resources which includes specimens, skulls & bones, rocks & fossils, and equipment such as microscopes.

How to Apply for Certification

Contact the SERC Director (serc@sjsu.edu) for information on the program. Once you are a certified WA educator, reservations must be made at least one week in advance.
