Long-Term Programs
Study abroad for a semester or a year on a long-term program! Our study abroad programs span the globe and are for students in every major. Start exploring and plan for your adventure abroad!
SJSU Exchange: Study at a partner university abroad for a semester or a year with an SJSU Exchange. Take classes at institutions around the world that have the best academic fit, course offerings, and international student services, while paying your regular SJSU tuition, and receiving SJSU credit for every class you take! These programs are only open to SJSU students.
CSU IP: California State University International Programs (CSU IP) provide students in the CSU system with an affordable opportunity to study abroad for a semester or year. Students earn SJSU credit while studying at a host university or study center, taking major, minor, and GE courses. Many programs offer opportunities to study the local language and culture.
ISEP: SJSU is a member of International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP), a non-profit organization that offers study abroad options at over 200 universities in 51 countries. You can study with ISEP for a semester or a year and immerse yourself in classes at local universities while receiving SJSU credit. If you are interested in studying abroad in a location that is off the beaten path, ISEP has the program for you.
Virtual International Partners (VIP): Learn about another culture and make a new friend through the Virtual International Partners (VIP) program! The VIP program connects students at SJSU and partner universities around the world for a semester-long virtual cultural exchange. You can earn academic credit (if within the College of Health and Human Sciences) or participate in an extracurricular program while meeting someone new in a different part of the world!

Study Abroad and Away Covid-19 Update
The CDC issued guidance on March 1, 2020 and advised the postponement or cancellation of all upcoming student foreign exchange programs. The CDC notes, and we believe, that “students may face unpredictable circumstances, travel restrictions, challenges in returning home or accessing health care while abroad.”
Due to the dynamic nature of the Coronavirus and its impact on travel, the Study Abroad and Away office has suspended some programs from the onset of Coronavirus in early 2020 to current. All students impacted by cancellations or program transitions have been and will continue to be notified. The Study Abroad and Away office will continue to monitor this evolving situation and will make decisions about future programs and travel as needed.
We encourage you to explore program options for Summer 2022, Fall 2022, and the 2022-2023 Academic Year on the Spartans Abroad Portal.
Please contact us at SpartansAbroad@sjsu.edu for questions or if you need assistance. If an emergency, contact the University Police Department at 408-924-2222.
