Program Description 

At JAMK University in Jyväskylä, Finland, you will attend classes with other health major students from around the world. Classes are highly engaging via discussions, site visits, field trips, and group learning with interprofessional and international peers.

From the program, students will:

  • Understand interdisciplinary and globally important topics related to wellness and health promotion
  • Participate in interesting site visits,
  • Utilize the social program to experience the light-filled Finnish summer with peers from around the world.

OCTH 210ITL Seminar in Occupational Therapy: International Experience (3 units)

Students will develop knowledge and skills in a selected practice area. The overall goal for the course is to gain cross-cultural and cross-national insight into the political, social, cultural and economic factors that influence the provision of occupational therapy/nursing/social work and other health care services outside of the U.S. and define the role of occupational therapy/nursing/social work and other health professions within the system of care. Social justice issues are explored, and the role of the student as a global citizen is emphasized.

Program Leader: Lynne Andonian

Professor, Lynne Andonian, PhD, OTR/L, earned a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Boston University, an MA degree in Industrial Design from the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York, and a PhD in Organizational Systems from Saybrook University, San Francisco. She has over 25 years of clinical experience, primarily in mental health, in a variety of settings including inpatient hospitals, outpatient partial hospitalization programs, public schools, and community-based settings. Dr. Andonian has also worked abroad with people with disabilities in Zambia and Uganda. She has presented nationally and internationally on her research interests that include community advocacy for underserved groups in the US and abroad, people with mental illness, international and multicultural issues, and occupational therapy clinical education.




It is important to note that each program's total cost will vary depending on the location and the package it offers.
