Program Description 

Travel to beautiful Rome, Italy and take courses at the Luiss University Summer School. Located in the heart of Rome, the eternal city.  This major metropolitan city has so much to offer you over the three week long summer school program!  Luiss provides housing in their residence halls, a range of activities and events that enable you to experience the city of Rome, its history, art, and exciting social life!

  • Visit the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, and so much more!
  • Spend some time taking in the city while enjoying amazing coffee and treats!
  • Make loads of new friends from all over the world!


Courses

The following Luiss University Summer School courses have been pre-approved for the specific SJSU major, minor, or GE requirements. Additional courses will be posted here as they are approved by the respective SJSU Deans or Department Chairs. Costs vary based on course and any additional fees.

You will enroll in a three week long course at LUISS, which will be added to your transcript as a pre-approved SJSU course. Students can enroll in only one course during the summer. 

 

Management "Made in Italy": Food, Luxury, Fashion, and Design

The program adopts a cross-industry approach, analyzing operating and innovation strategies performed by leading Italian companies in different industries: fashion, design, automotive, luxury boating, hi-tech, food, and beverages. This course focuses on the latest business strategies of luxury niche players and global players in industries where creativity, innovation and exclusiveness are the key ingredients for success.

Students will understand the fundamental business models, marketing and innovation strategies; apply the acquired knowledge to business cases and through interaction with business leaders and entrepreneurs; learn how successful Italian companies adapt, reshape and apply marketing strategies and business models.

Short and intense conventional lectures will alternate with case studies, group work sessions, company visits, interaction with business executives and prominent academics and entrepreneurs.

The course includes three modules. Each module provides essential models on management and in-depth analysis of an industry where Italian companies are among the world’s leaders. Students have the opportunity to choose among one week, two weeks or three weeks program earning the related academic credits.

    Management “Made in Italy” 1 – Focus on Food & Beverage Industry
  • Week 2
    Management “Made in Italy” 2 – Focus on Luxury Industry
  • Week 3
    Management “Made in Italy” 3 – Focus on Fashion & Furniture Design

The program includes three written examinations on business case, one exam for each module.  

The course structure includes company visits, at least two per module, to leading Italian companies such as Ferrari, Fendi, Antinori, Eataly and others. Please note that some company visits may be subject to change.

Students will learn from and engage with full-time lecturers from Luiss University, the top management of leading Italian companies, and distinguished economic and social leaders.

Euro-Mediterranean Trends: Society and Culture, Politics and Economics

The summer program on Euro-Mediterranean Trends provides an interdisciplinary and comprehensive training for students who aim for career opportunities in international and intergovernmental organizations, policy consulting, think tanks, foundations and civil society, businesses, diplomacy, media and academia. With the summer school participants will have acquired: An in-depth knowledge on Euro-Mediterranean trends and instruments to critically analyse them in their multi-dimensional nature. 

The course includes three modules. Students have the opportunity to choose either one-week, two-week or three-week program earning the related academic credits.

  • Week 1
    Euro-Mediterranean Trends – Focus on Society and Culture
  • Week 2
    Euro-Mediterranean Trends – Focus on Politics
  • Week 3
    Euro-Mediterranean Trends – Focus on Economics

The program includes three written examinations, one exam for each module.  

The course structure includes visits to international Institutions and Organizations. Please note that some visits may be subject to change.
