We want to hear your good news!

University Personnel would like to highlight employee good news in our Well-being Wednesday newsletters. Please share your stories with us, send us photos of an activity you participated in, tell us about your favorite hobby, share "words of wisdom" from your kids, or tell us what's helped you get through the last year. During these ever-changing times, it's important to find the good in things. Your stories can help us all do that.

Not sure what to share? Here are a few ideas to get you started:
  • How are you balancing your time between work and home life?
  • How do you stay active?
  • Have you tackled a big home project?
  • What have you been doing with your kids?
  • Have you volunteered anywhere?
  • Do you have a hobby?
  • Have you experienced a major life event recently, like getting engaged or married, having or adopting a child, etc.?
  • Have you been the recipient of an act of kindness? Have you done an act of kindness for someone else?

COVID-19 vaccinations are now available to everyone age 12 and older.  Getting vaccinated helps you protect not only yourself but your loved ones, as well as the campus and greater community as a whole.

Contact your healthcare provider or visit the California Department of Health’s My Turn website to register for your vaccine appointment.  Looking for more information about the vaccine?
COVID-19 Vaccine

To safeguard the health and safety of all, SJSU has implemented mandatory COVID-19 testing. APC, CFA, CSUEU, SUPA, and UAPD employees are required to undergo mandatory testing, as are unrepresented employees, auxiliary employees, volunteers and others in unpaid appointments who access campus and other university facilities.

Testing is in progress and will continue on campus--or at off-campus worksites, if applicable--at no cost on a weekly basis. Notifications and instructions on how to schedule testing will be sent weekly to those individuals who are required to participate in the testing program. Individuals who wish to opt-out of testing may do so by providing proof that they are fully vaccinated on the Self-Service Attestation page in SJSU @ Work.

Supporting a Friend with a Mental Health Issue
Article by: LifeMatters by Empathia

Chances are you know one or more people with a mental health issue, such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. If someone you know has one of these medical conditions, keep these tips in mind:
  • Offer support: It’s important they know that you have their back.
  • Adapt to the new normal: A friend who has been diagnosed with a mental health condition may need to make some lifestyle changes.
  • Be compassionate: A person who is struggling may say or do things that are damaging to relationships.

10 Gentle Reminders to Help You Prioritize Self Care
Article by: Be More With Less

We know we have to take care of ourselves but when considering everything and everyone else that needs our attention, it’s hard to prioritize self care. Consider these self care reminders a gentle nudge to put yourself first:
  • That moment when you think you don’t have time to take care of yourself is the exact moment you have to take care of yourself.
  • Self-care doesn’t always mean adding something. Taking away a habit or something else that isn’t serving you is powerful, too.
  • Whatever it is that helps you feel better in your body, heart or mind, this is an invitation to come back to it.

Greek Hummus Board Recipe
Article and recipe by: Lovely Food Blog

This Greek hummus board is the perfect go-to for when you want to serve something really pretty for guests, but don’t want to spend more than a few minutes making it. Bonus: Depending on how many guests you have, you can make as much or as little as you want!

1 Package of Whole Wheat Pita Bread
2 Containers of Organic Hummus Classic
4 Mini Cucumbers
1/4 Cup of Feta/Reduced Fat Feta Cheese Crumbles
1/4 Cup of Tuscan Garden Pepperoncini Peppers
1/4 Cup of Tuscan Garden Large Pitted Olives
1/2 Red Pepper
1/2 Cup of Grape Tomatoes
1 Teaspoon of Greek Seasoning
A drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
A small handful of toasted Canned Garbanzo Beans
Parsley to garnish

  1. Start by cutting pita bread into triangles (6-8 pieces per full pita)
  2. Then drizzle with olive oil and a pinch of Greek seasoning
  3. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes or until golden brown
  4. When you remove the pita from the oven, sprinkle with chopped parsley, and let cool
  5. While waiting for the pita to toast in the oven, chop mini cucumbers, pepperoncini, black olives and red pepper
  6. Then cut grape tomatoes in half and set aside
  7. Next, scoop hummus onto a large tray and use a spoon to create a divot through the middle, similar to the photo
  8. Sprinkle with the chopped and halved veggies
  9. Add crumbled feta, drizzle with olive oil and more Greek seasoning
  10. Garnish with a handful of toasted garbanzo beans
  11. Then, add toasted pita points to the hummus board and it’s ready to serve.
