World AIDS Day takes place on the 1st of December each year. This commemorative day is an opportunity where people worldwide unite in the fight against HIV, show support for the estimated 38 million people living with HIV, and lastly, honor the more than 36 million people who have died from an AIDS-related illness.

Santa Clara County will honor the 33rd year of World AIDS Day by hosting both in-person and virtual public events, which are free and open to everyone to attend. All event details can be found on our World AIDS Day 2021 website.

How to Have a ‘Green’ Christmas
Article by: eartheasy

Christmas doesn’t have to be a burden on the planet. With a little effort and imagination we can reduce the environmental impact of the holiday season. Here are some ideas to help celebrate the season while caring for the earth.
  • Buy less: Not all gifts have to be store-bought
  • Buy smart, think 'green': Choose gifts made from recycled sources
  • 'Re-gifting' is okay: Pass on a gift you received but do not need
  • Connect with nature: Nature restoration activity
  • Find alternatives to wrapping paper: Use environmentally friendly wrapping paper

Protect Your Credit Card Activities
Article and photo by: Technology Credit Union

While that handy piece of plastic allows you to purchase items with ease, it can also open the door to fraudulent activity. As the holiday season brings on an increase in online shopping and credit or debit card usage, know there are preventative measures that can be taken to protect your personal data.

Here are some tips to protect your credit card activities:
  • Physically Protecting Your Credit Cards
    • Only have as many cards as you need and carry as few as possible.
    • If you are expecting a new or re-issued credit card and do not receive it, contact the issuing company immediately.
  • Protecting Your Credit Card Information
    • Never give credit card information over the phone unless you initiated the call.
    • Never write your PIN on your cards.
  • Preventing Unauthorized Use of Your Credit Card
    • Always total the receipt and draw lines through unused spaces on the receipt.
    • When using your card, be sure to get it back and take the receipt.
  • In Case of Problems
    • If your credit card is lost, contact the issuing company immediately.
    • If your wallet or purse is stolen, contact all your credit card issuers to report the theft.
Vaccine with nurse .jpg

COVID-19 vaccinations are now available to everyone ages 5 and older. It is recommended that all who are eligible receive a COVID-19 booster shot. The booster is appropriate for everyone ages 18 and older 6 months following the last Pfizer or Moderna vaccination, or 2 months following the Johnson & Johnson vaccination.

Getting va
ccinated helps you protect not only yourself but your loved ones, as well as the campus and greater community as a whole.

Contact your healthcare provider or visit the California Department of Health’s My Turn website to register for your vaccine appointment.  Looking for more information about the vaccine?
COVID-19 Vaccine

To safeguard the health and safety of all, SJSU has implemented mandatory COVID-19 testing. All  employees, auxiliary employees, volunteers and others in unpaid appointments who access campus and other university facilities are required to test.

Testing is in progress and will continue on campus--or at off-campus worksites, if applicable--at no cost on a weekly basis. Notifications and instructions on how to schedule testing will be sent weekly to those individuals who are required to participate in the testing program.

Individuals who wish to opt-out of testing may do so by providing proof that they are fully vaccinated on the Self-Service Attestation page in SJSU @ Work.
Tuscan Salmon
Article and photo by: Cooking Professionally

Serve this creamy, garlic Tuscan Salmon over a bed of rice, pasta, or your favorite steamed veggies! This recipe is equal parts simple and flavorful—the best combination.

3 Salmon fillets
2 Teaspoons olive oil
2 Tablespoons butter
5 Cloves garlic, finely diced
1 Small yellow onion, diced
1/3 Cup vegetable broth
5 Ounces jarred sun-dried tomato in oil, drained or fresh grape tomatoes
1 3/4 Cups heavy cream
Salt and pepper, to taste
3 Cups baby spinach leaves
1/2 Cup grated Parmesan
1 Tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Step 1: Heat the oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Season the salmon filets on both sides with salt and pepper, then sear in the hot pan flesh-side down for 5 minutes then repeat on the other side, or until salmon is cooked to your liking. Remove from the pan and set aside. Do not clean pan.

Step 2: In the same pan, melt the butter in the remaining cooking juices over medium heat. Add in the garlic and  sauté until fragrant (about one minute). Add onion and  sauté until translucent. Add the sun-dried tomatoes and sauté for 1-2 minutes so they release their flavors. Finally, pour in the vegetable broth, and allow the sauce to reduce down slightly.

Step 3: Reduce heat to low, add the heavy cream, and bring to a low simmer while stirring often. Season the cream sauce with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 4: Add baby spinach and allow to wilt in the sauce. Add parmesan cheese, then allow cream sauce to simmer for another minute until cheese melts through.

Step 5: Add the grilled salmon filets back into the pan; sprinkle with the parsley, and spoon the sauce over each filet. Serve immediately and garnish with grated parmesan optional.
