Happy Earth Month, Spartans!

Help celebrate Earth Month by choosing to commute sustainably to help our environment. Choosing to commute sustainably helps with personal costs, helps reduce CO2 emissions, and helps improve mental health.

There are two events this month where you can learn more about sustainable transportation and commuting.
  • Between April 8-22, post a selfie of yourself on transit and tag @ts_sjsu. Your post will enter you in a drawing for a chance to win a gift bag that includes a $50 Amazon gift card! For your entry to count, please make it apparent and clear that you are on transit. You can even hold up your transit pass in the picture as well. Maximum of 5 entries. Keep an eye on our social media on April 8 to see more details.
  • On April 20, join us for the Sustainable Transportation Fair! At this event, you learn about sustainable transportation programs and options offered by Transportation Solutions, campus organizations, and our community partners. There will also be a drawing where you can win a $100 VISA gift card along with opportunities for free food, swag, and resources.
We hope you participate in these events. They are sure to be a great time, and you will get to learn more about different resources that contribute to saving our Earth!

For more updates on events and resources during Earth Month, follow our social media! Our handle is @ts_sjsu on both Instagram and Twitter.

How to Defend Your Eyes Against Digital Eye Strain
Article and Photo by: VSP Vision Care

Without blinking twice, our daily activities could be contributing to digital eye strain. Due to exposure to digital devices, you could be subjected to symptoms like dry eyes, blurred vision, tired eyes, sore eyes, and watery eyes.

Whether we are scrolling through social media, working on a computer screen all day, or even watching TV to wind down at the end of the night, our eyes can be affected.

We conducted a survey surrounding the effects of digital eye strain. We learned that people feel that the top contributors to their eye discomfort are: keeping their smartphone display on full brightness (51%), sitting too close to their TV or computer screen (48%), and watching TV in the dark (44%).

Eye Exam Helps Identify Multiple Sclerosis
Article by: VSP Vision Care; Photo by: Canva

“I was stunned and speechless and I just started crying. Yeah, everybody is always surprised to hear that it was an eye doctor that discovered the MS,” said Janna.

After Janna, a writer in Northern California, noticed changes to her vision along with pain in her left eye she decided to go to the eye doctor.

During her eye exam, she was surprised to learn that these symptoms could be signs of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). This was the unexpected beginning of her health care journey that led to a formal diagnosis 18 months later.
