Fire Remote Sensing
The work of the Fire Remote Sensing Group led by Dr. Valero focuses on the quantitative characterization of wildfire behavior and the ingestion
of fire dynamics observations into models. Specific topics being investigated include
(i) the development of hardware and software solutions to measure fire behavior using
airborne optical sensors, (ii) the analysis of observed fire behavior metrics and
their relationship with weather, topography, and vegetation, (iii) the development
of data-driven fire modeling capabilities through the implementation of inverse modeling
and data assimilation techniques, (iv) the quantification of uncertainties in fire
dynamics models, and (v) the integration of machine learning algorithms and high-fidelity
physics-based fire models.
