Jesselle Hoque is a second-year graduate student in the Department of Counselor Education. Some of her interests include traveling - she visits a different state and/or country each year, and enjoys trying different restaurants. As a Career Counseling Intern, Jesselle wants to convey her passion for helping students by supporting them in finding careers that align with their interests, passions, and professional goals. Fun fact: Jesselle lived in Florence, Italy for a semester to learn Italian and ate a ton of pizza and pasta!
Tammy Yan is going into her second year of Master in Education Counseling. She enjoys watching films, exploring new places, and trying out different coffee and boba shops. Tammy wants to empower students to define and achieve meaningful career goals, identify individual strengths, and transfer knowledge gained from their educational experience to the professional world while interning at the Career Center. Fun fact: Tammy is a Disney fanatic and dreams to become an Annual Pass Holder one day.
Peer Career Advisors
Dean Doria is a Peer Career Advisor. He is a fourth-year undergraduate studying Public Health. As a student himself, Dean understands the stress peers around his age face as they seek opportunities to further advance their careers. He finds it a rewarding experience to help students discover and reach their career goals. Fun fact: Dean’s all time favorite show is Spongebob, and he has been watching it since it first aired in 1999 (when he was only a year old).
Jeanette Cancino is a Peer Career Advisor. She is a third-year undergraduate studying Public Health. Her interests consist of painting, cooking, and hiking. Jeanette enjoys helping students get career-ready. She understands the pressure students go through when exploring their major, career, and professional experience. Being a peer at the Career Center gives Jeanette the opportunity to help our campus community and inform them of the many resources our school has to offer. Fun fact: Jeanette enjoys going on walks at the beach.
Joel Meza is a Peer Career Advisor. Joel is a first-year graduate student in the Department of Counselor Education. Some of his interests include sports, music, traveling, and helping others. The emotional satisfaction that assisting students brings to him is what motivates him to continue assisting others.Fun fact: Joel ‘s favorite place to travel to is Mexico!
Bryanna Gilges is a Peer Career Advisor. Bryanna is a transfer student going into her junior year and is studying Public Health. Some of Bryanna’s interests include theater, music, and helping others. Throughout her entire college experience, Bryanna always had mentors, professors and counselors that have been so helpful and supportive, and she wants to give back to students by being a mentor herself. Fun fact: Bryanna performed in musical theater for eight years; theater is her passion.
Shawn Klein is a new Peer Career Advisor. Shawn is a senior pursuing Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources. Some of his interests are going to baseball games, music festivals, and traveling. Shawn has a passion for helping others and giving constructive feedback which is why he couldn't pass up the opportunity to work at the Career Center. Realizing that students don't what resources the school has to offer makes Shawn want to change that and make students aware. Fun fact: Shawn lived in Dubai for six months last year.
Alma Carrillo is a Peer Career Advisor. She is entering her senior year in Biomedical Engineering and hopes to do scientific research in the future. Alma has a large interest in finding new travel destinations, as well as reading mystery books and binge watching Disney movies. Her experience in university has made her develop a passion for helping other students find their ideal career path and encourage them to pursue it. Fun fact: Alma loves camping and taking any outdoor activity lessons like surfing, snowboarding, and scuba diving.
Vu Phan is the Events & Marketing Intern. Vu is a senior pursuing a Business Administration Management degree. Vu engages in photography in his free time. Being a senior about to step into the working world, Vu understands how it feels to be scared or nervous about life after college. Working at the Career Center gives Vu the opportunity to help students who may have a similar experience. Fun fact: Vu was a street magician for a few years back in high school.
Brittany Fung is the Graphic Design Intern and a third-year student pursuing a BFA in Graphic Design. She loves adventuring to near and far places, eating good food, drinking boba, and hanging out with friends. Brittany enjoys working at the Career Center because she loves creating posters and flyers that inform students of helpful events and resources in a functional and appealing way. Fun fact: Brittany LOVES rollers coasters.
Cody Chan is the Videography/Storytelling Intern at SJSU Career Center. Cody is a third-year undergraduate student studying Radio-Television-Film. He has a strong interest in music and films, as well as anything that is food. Cody believes that the transition from school to career life is daunting and would like students to learn more about the resources that are available to them. Fun fact: Cody danced bhangra in high school.
