You would say to Mrs. Mori:

SITUATION #5.

SITUATION #6.

SITUATION #9.
A 60-year-old woman, one of the tenants in the house you are rent-sharing, has returned from a resort area after driving many hours on a crowded freeway during rush hour traffic. She comes into your room and starts complaining about her frustrating day, and while she is speaking to you, her voice gets louder and louder because she was getting agitated about her story. You want her to lower her voice.  You will say to her:

話す力を伸ばす IMPROVING YOUR CONVERSATION SKILL:   CONSTRUCTING DIALOGS / IMPROVISATION
INSTRUCTIONS:
下記の中から1つか2つ選んでクラスメートと短い会話(1、2分)を作りなさい。提出日クラスで発表す る。Print out this page first. Choose 1 or 2 situations from among the choices below, and make up (improvise) short dialogs with your classmate, then present them on the due date in class.

SITUATION #1.
You are reading in a quiet lounge, feeling relaxed. A young Japanese man comes in with a CD radio playing hard rock music very loudly. You cannot concentrate on what you are doing. You will say to him:

SITUATION #2.
A vending machine takes your 100 yen without giving you anything. You push the return button several times, you hit and kick the machine several times; you further shake the vending machine but neither your money nor the desired article comes out. You become very angry and upset. You ask a lady, who seems to be in charge of these machines, who comes by:

SITUATION #3.
There is a lecture that seems to be very appealing to you. It will be held in a city about 30 kilometers away from where you live. You want to attend it, but you have no transportation. You become anxious the day of the lecture. You telephone your best friend and ask:

SITUATION #4.
You are asked by your boss to run down and make some photocopies. Your boss gave you the ID# to start the machine; you arrive at the copy machine and enter the ID#.  The machine says "ready," so you put the original copy your boss handed you into the machine and press the start button. The machine does not copy. You look around the room. You then see a secretary sitting nearby from whom you might get some help. You approach her and say:

SITUATION #5.
Your Japanese neighbor always parks his car very close to the entrance of your driveway. Sometimes another neighbor across the street from your house parks his car in the street. Today you discover that the street is full of cars and your next door neighbor, as usual, parked his car partly blocking your driveway. There is no way you can get your car out of your driveway. You are getting nervous because you are going to be late for school. You knock on your Japanese neighbor's door and say:

SITUATION #6.
When you go out, this particular friend of yours never buys his own beverage. He always waits until you or someone else offers him one. This friend has enough money to buy his own beverage. The time has come for you to tell him politely that he should pay his fair share. Today, he and you alone have just come into a coffee house and ordered beverages. You will say to him:

SITUATION #7.
Your Japanese neighbor's dog barks very loudly at night. The dog starts barking tonight. You have an important exam the next morning; so, you need to sleep tonight. It is getting late, yet the dog barks on and on. You are annoyed and getting angry. You know the neighbor relatively well, so you go to the next door neighbor, and knock on the door. You will say to your neighbor:

SITUATION #8.
You have invited out to dinner a friend who has helped you move into your new apartment. After you have finished a delicious meal, the waiter has brought you the bill. You are about to pay the waiter. You look through your wallet (or purse) and discover that you have no money and left your credit cards at home. You are embarrassed and feel helpless. To get out of this situation without giving your Japanese friend a bad impression, you will say to your friend:

SITUATION #9.
Your Japanese roommate is getting married to a person you really can't stand, even for a minute. You are invited to dinner with them. You respond to the invitation, saying:
